Libi pendants for Kera Interior are humanistic and look different from every angle. “I wanted to work with soft shapes that are easy to have around, that make you smile,” says Salonen. The playful forms of Libi pendants might have something to do with designing them in the dark of Finland’s winter. She adds, “The asymmetrical shapes remind me of a hat on a head. It’s like having friends in the room.”
“I was also inspired by the rounded, plastic shapes of the 1960s, which came about, in part, from the thermoforming process.” With Libi, Salonen is respectful of the traditions, materials and manufacturing processes of Finnish lamp design of the 1960s, yet uses modernist shapes in a new way.
